What We Believe

Picture
As our stained glass indicates, the seeds of faith are planted in us through God's Word (the Bible).
United Methodists have common convictions with most protestant Christian denominations due to a shared religious heritage. We believe:

  • God has mercy and love for all people
  • God is experienced through the God the creator, Jesus the redeemer, and the sustaining Holy Spirit
  • Salvation from sin is made possible through Jesus Christ alone
  • The Divine can be experienced and encountered through the mystery of baptism and communion (our two "sacraments")

We also believe in the primacy of the Bible, which informs our conduct, guides our faith and shapes our practices.

There are some distinctive features that makes United Methodism unique:

  • The primacy of grace: unmerited/undeserved favor is offered without condition
  • Holiness:  We believe the Holy Spirit can shape us as we seek a perfect faith through service, piety, study, and more
  • Human worth: All people should be treated justly, honorably, respectfully
  • Faith and good works:  A relationship with Jesus should stir one to serve Him

Scripture tells us three things remain: faith, hope and love
but the greatest of these is:

Love
